Why Exercise Is For Your Own Good

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “Humans were made to work, to do physically challenging things each and every day, not to be sedentary”. Being sedentary today is now actually regarded as unhealthy. Here’s why, and I’ll start with things that have happened way in the past, but bear with me as I’m trying to make a point here.
Then: No such thing as cars or bikes. You walked everywhere, and carried everything.
Now: Motorized vehicles get you everywhere and carry everything.
Then: You had to get water from a well and carry the bucket home.
Now: Turn the knob on the faucet and voila, instant water, both cold and hot.
Then: If you needed hot water, aside from getting the water from the well and carrying it home, you had to gather sticks from the bush to make a fire under the pot hanging from the tripod to make hot water.
Then: Any cooking was done on a fire with a pot hanging from a tripod.
Now: Turn a knob on the stove and voila again, instant fire.
Then: When cars replaced horses, they were started by a hand cranking the engine, then, electric starters and a key was invented.
Now: Push a button.
Then: You had to operate all aspects of a motor vehicle. Hand crank the windows, steer, shift gears, etc.
Now: The vehicle will do pretty much everything for you automatically. As a matter of fact, in China, all buses and delivery vehicles no longer have a cab for the driver because there is no driver.
Then: Children had to be dragged in the house to eat or do homework or to go to bed.
Now: Children have to be dragged outside to play.
Then: Walked to school
Now: Driven to school
Then: All television controls where on the T.V. You had to get up to do anything.
Now: All television controls are on the remote. No need to get up.
Then: Cut grass with a push, non motorized lawn mower. If you weren’t pushing, the blades weren’t turning.
Now: Motorized lawn mower with power drive so you don’t even have to push it.
Then: Trimmed grass with hand held clippers.
Now: Electric or battery operated trimmers.
Then: Open and close garage doors by hand.
Now: Remote garage door openers.
Then: Phone was attached to the wall.
Now: Phone is in your pocket.
Then: Snow removal was done by you and a shovel.
Now: Snow removal is done by you and a gas or electric snow blower with power drive so you don’t have to push it.
Then: Digging up the garden after the harvest with a shovel.
Now: Digging up the garden after the harvest with a gas powered tiller.
Then: Letters were hand written and mailed to people abroad.
Now: Your phone does that for you instantly.
Then: Ride your bike everywhere, or your skateboard, or your scooter.
Now: All those modes of propulsion now come with motors on them. No need to use your legs.
Then: Do your laundry in the river or by hand in a tub and then hang your clothes on a line to dry.
Now: Your washer washes and your dryer dries them.
Then: Dishes were cleaned by hand.
Now: Automatic dishwasher does it for us.
Then: Homes were built by hand using manual saws, hammers and nails.
Now: Hammers, saws and nails are rarely used. Instead, pneumatic nailers, screw guns, and electric saws are used.
And the saddest thing of all……
Then: We had to think for ourselves.
Now: A.I. thinks for us.
I hope you get the point. The gym is nothing more than a simulator that replaces for you the physically challenging things you are meant to do, built to do, that you don’t do any longer thanks to automation.
So, if you are reading this and are not attending a gym on a regular basis, doing effective strength training, YOU NEED TO. Otherwise, growing old gracefully is out of the question.
