Sabatoge and Temptation

This is a rant so be prepared.

Sabotage

If someone were to ask me if I thought that the obesity epidemic would ever get better I would have to say absolutely not. Temptation and sabotage are the reasons.

There are so many things in the media at play that sabotage most efforts to lose weight and improve one’s physical well being, especially this time of year, that it becomes difficult to separate the legit from the scams.

Let’s go over a few of the things that are marketed in the media as weight loss aids that are the things that sabotage people’s attempts at true, safe and everlasting weight loss or physical improvements.

  1. The newest one on the market that I have noticed on TV lately is the needle that somehow targets two hormones that promote weight gain or inhibit weight loss or both, and apparently it’s free!  I haven’t had a chance to look into this one too much yet but I do remember hearing the words “combined with diet and exercise.” Go figure. And another thing: we already know of two things that promote weight gain and inhibit weight loss and that’s eating too much and not exercising regularly! Furthermore, I’m going to assume that once you reach your target weight using this needle and diet and exercise, I guess you stop using the needle, right? And what are you left with? Diet and exercise. Go figure, again.
  2. Exercise gadgets that do little to nothing to help you lose weight or get you into better physical condition like the little pedal contraption launched last year that you pedal while sitting on your nice comfy couch barely moving your feet and legs at all. What a joke. The only thing that thing promotes is laziness. And how could this get any worse you ask? Well, let me tell you about the new and improved model. The newest and most recent version has eliminated the pedals and replaced them with two foot platforms that rock back and forth I guess to rock your feet to sleep. No sense in moving your hips and knees if you don’t have to. That’ll get you in shape never.
  3. How about the “New Weight Watchers!” Yes, new. Again? How many times is Weight Watchers going to come up with a new plan before they just give up? They should quit now in my opinion. Sooner or later they are going to lose all credibility, if they haven’t already. We at G&M Fitness haven’t changed our approach in 39 years. Seems to be working just fine.

Here’s a few that have vanished in thin air.

  • I wrote in my first book about NutriSystems prepared and boxed meats (burgers, chicken breasts and such) that sat out in department store shelves, no refrigeration in sight. That disappeared faster than a snowball in hell.
  • I also mentioned in my first book the abdominal machines and cardio machines being demonstrated by top models in superb physical condition. Do you really think that the models achieved those physiques by using those machines? They did not, and nor will you.

Collectively, these types of temptations do nothing but convince the innocent but gullible public into trying these things only to set them up for failure and disappointment. This only serves to discourage people from trying to lose weight and/or get in shape so the epidemic continues and will only get worse. So a better understanding of how to approach and achieve fitness goals properly is priceless because you will soon realize that those “too good to be true” temptations in the media are just that: too good to be true, and you will inevitably end up with us at G&M Fitness because it’s “Where You Belong”, and we do things the right way. We are certified, educated, professional, experienced and happy to help you in achieving your fitness goals.

When someone comes to us, we preach only what works, use proven strategies to safely achieve your goals and council you on how to maintain that achievement long term. The only thing newcomers need to do is show up and we’ll take it from there.

See you at the club,
