Everything Has a Cost

Every choice we make has a consequence. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. In regards to our health and fitness it means that when you make a choice to not exercise, the consequence is that you become deconditioned. On the flip side, choosing to workout will no doubt have consequences as well. It will take time away from something else in your day that you are doing now. You will most likely have to give up something and this is why it can sometimes feel so hard to fit workouts in.

If you don’t want to give up any activities, you might have to get up earlier, giving up some sleep, or, you might have to start missing some Netflix nights to make time. Regardless, we all have a choice and which ever choice we make will have a consequence. Knowing that, what we choose to do comes down to priorities. Unfortunately, it can sometimes take a health scare or getting to the point where you are no longer happy with how you look and or feel to change your priorities enough to make a different choice.

Luckily improving your health and getting into better shape doesn’t have to take up too much of your time. Here is an outline of what you can do to accomplish this without sacrificing too much of your time from other priorities:

1. Get to the gym and warm up for 5 minutes on a cardio machine of choice to prepare your body for exercise.

2. Do a full body strength training routine covering all the major muscle groups and movements for improving strength and increasing your metabolism. It will be 8 to 10 exercises for 2 to 3 sets of each and take approximately 30 to 40 minutes at the most.

3. Hop back on a cardio machine for 20 minutes at the end of your workout to exercise your heart and lungs for better endurance and burn some extra calories.

4. Stretch and cool down for 5-10 minutes, again going through a full body stretch routine for improved flexibility, injury prevention and joint health.

Done. Total time 60 to 75 minutes max.

Complete this 2-3 times per week on non consecutive days.

Can you spare 3 hours a week to improve how you look, feel, perform and achieve a higher, longer quality of life?

There are a hundred different ways to structure a workout plan but for the majority of people who are not exercising right now, this is a great way to start. It’s quick and simple. No need to complicate things. It doesn’t matter how complex and amazing a workout plan is, it only works if you do it.

Remember, everything has a cost. Choosing not to exercise will cost you a lower level of health over time. Choosing to exercise will also have a cost, but it doesn’t have to be much! Especially for the lifetime of positive benefits you will gain from it!
