“After nearly 2 years away from the gym, I rejoined in January 2015. Previous to that, I had been an on and off member and even worked here!

In 2011, I went back to nursing school and gained the dreaded “freshman 15.” Going to school full time and working part time as a PSW during those 2 years left me with no time and no ambition to do anything. Even after I graduated in 2013 and started my new career as an RPN, I continued to neglect myself, yo-yo dieting and no regular exercise.
I decided in December 2014 that I needed to get my act together so my husband renewed my membership for Christmas. My goal was to lose 15lbs and tone up. It was a lot of hard work, sometimes 2 steps forward and 1 back but by December 2015 I reached my goal weight. When I plateaued during that time I downloaded Gino’s book Eat Smart, Eat Often, Eat Small and followed the guidelines for eating and exercising and that really set me on my way. I also had an accountability buddy (thanks Meg!) to help me stay on track.

This October I turn 50 and my goal is to do an unassisted pull-up. I have started lifting heavier and recently gained 4lbs in muscle. Lifting weights is my favourite and I really don’t like to do cardio. If I have any questions, Matt and Gino are always available to answer my questions and show me proper technique.
I love the diverse group of members at G&M, especially all the seniors. Working in long term care and seeing seniors in poor health everyday, it is very refreshing to see ones who are taking their health into their own hands and working out. Thanks to Gino and Matt for making G&M such an awesome gym to be a part of.”
