4 Tips for Changing Up Your Workout Routine

If you have been doing the same old workout routine for a while, you may have noticed that your results have tapered off or that it is just getting stale and you are not as motivated to do it as you once were.

Over time, your body does get used to doing the same movements over and over and you can hit a “plateau” with these exercises.

To ensure that you are always progressing and improving your fitness, here are a few simple ideas to implement into your workout program to keep things fresh and challenging.

Change the order of exercises.

You have the most energy and strength at the beginning of your workout. Therefore, the exercises you do at or near the beginning of your workout you will be stronger at then ones done at the end. Try doing your exercises in a different order. This change will allow you to be stronger at exercises you move to the beginning of your workout and make some of the ones you used to do at the beginning more challenging if you try them more towards the end.

Change your repetitions.

By simply changing the number of repetitions you do, you can change up the challenge. Instead of doing say 12 repetitions for your exercises, drop that down to 10 or even 8 for a while. Lowering the number of repetitions will automatically allow you to increase your resistance and therefore create a new challenge without changing the actual exercise itself.

Change your rest times between sets and exercises.

This is another way to create a new challenge with the same exercises. Increasing your rest time between sets will allow you to have more energy for your next set and should get you to be able to either add a few extra repetitions at the same resistance or even increase the resistance. Decreasing the rest times will have the opposite effect, giving a different challenge of doing the exercises with less rest between.

Change the exercises.

If you have been doing the same exercises consistently for a long time, it is a good idea to change up the exercises entirely. This gives your body a whole new stimulus and challenge to adapt to. If you are working out consistently it is a good idea to change up your exercises every 2 to 3 months.

For best results, you want to always be challenging yourself and keeping your body adapting to new stimuluses to force it to change. Implement some of these ideas into your workout programming for a new challenge and better results. And of course, if you need any help with any of this, let us know. We are here to help!
